Saying goodbye to our beloved Digger
By Kelly Allen
It’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce the passing of our beloved dog, Digger. Not only was he our four-legged companion in life, but he played an important, morale-boosting role in our business. Many of you met Digger in real life or online, as he could never resist appearing in the background of a Zoom call. But sadly, he’s now crossed the rainbow bridge.
Our magnificent canine friend was 15 years old, and recently diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer in his liver. So, before he crossed the rainbow bridge, we took some time out over Easter to spend some quality time with him. Digger was with me for most of his life and a significant part of my own life too. There are no words that can truly express our sadness.
Digger’s story
Found abandoned on Burbage Common, Digger was rescued by Leicester Animal Aid, and he was very poorly at the time. I adopted him from Leicester Animal Aid in 2008, when he was around 10 – 12 months old.
A bouncy, naughty boy, Digger was very nervous around strangers, especially men, and this continued throughout his life. But with a bit of patience and a gentle approach, Digger would warm to most people after a while. When I underwent all of my surgeries, my parents would bring Digger to the hospital so I could see him. He was a great comfort to me then and his companionship continued to be crucial when I experienced many difficult times in my life.
Digger has been with me at every major life event over the past decade. He had the privilege of being Best Boy at our wedding. Afterwards, we had a great adventure honeymooning in Cornwall, and it turned out he loved the beach! Who knew?! And before our special day took place, Digger even accompanied us to our pre-wedding fitness sessions. He always loved a good stretch or two, and he often tried to join in with us!
Digger-time
Our “Goodest Boi” was always there for us; he will never be forgotten and he will always have a place in our hearts. He offered a comforting paw to the team and any clients with problems who needed some Digger-time. As well as being the third and furry member of our team, responsible for moral support, he was a mean shredder too. Well-known for his regular Zoom call appearances, Digger’s wages were paid in biscuits.
